TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I am working as a faculty member in the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi since the 27th of January 1996. Presently, I am teaching International Political Economy to M.A. (Final) and Social Change and Development Studies to the B.A. (Hons.) and B.A. (Subs.) Second Year. Moreover, I have also taught European Diplomacy and Political Geography to B.A. (Hons.) Third year and M.A. (Prev.)

WORKSHOPS/SEMINARS

  • Presented a paper "US and UN" in an International Conference on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the United Nations on 15th October 1995.
  • Participated in an International Seminar on Conflicts and Conflict Resolution in the Post Cold War Era: Lessons for South Asia, organised by the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi in collaboration with Hanns Seidel Foundation, Islamabad on 1-2 December, 1996.
  • Presented a paper "Dual Containment Policy and South Asian Security" in an International Workshop on Internal and External Dynamics of South Asian Security, organised by the Department of International Relations in collaboration with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, Germany on 8th December 1996.
  • Presented a paper "The Role of Moderates and Hardliners in the Middle East and South Asia Peace Processes" in the Ford Foundation/International Relations Department Workshop on the Lessons for India and Pakistan from the Arab Israeli Peace Process, on 28th February 1998.
  • Participated in an International Workshop on Lessons for India and Pakistan from the Arab-Israeli Peace Process, organised by the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi in collaboration with Ford Foundation, US on 2-3 September 1998.
  • Presented a paper "The Economics of the Middle East and South Asia Peace Processes: Regional Cooperation, Integration and Dependence" in a regional workshop on Arab-Israeli Peace Process: Lessons Debated for South Asia, organised by the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi in collaboration with Ford Foundation, US on 8 April, 2000.
  • Participated in a seminar on The CTBT Controversy: Different Perceptions, organised by the Department of International Relations, University of Karachi on 29 April, 2000.
  • Presented a paper "The Effects of Debts on Pakistan's National Security" in a National seminar on a Comprehensive Strategy for salvaging Pakistan from Debt Liabilities, organised by Foundation for Research on International Environment, National Development and Security (FRIENDS) in collaboration with Hanns Seidel Foundation, Munich on July 27, 2000.

RESEARCH ASISTANTSHIPS

I have worked as a Research Assistant for the Ford Foundation/ Department of International Relations Project on the Lessons for India and Pakistan from the Arab-Israeli Peace Process from November 1997 till January 1998. My duties included assisting the Project Director in data collection and the maintenance of the seminar library.

I have also worked as a Research Assistant with Prof. Dr. S.M.A. Sayeed on his book, Iran Before and After Khomeini: A Study in the Dialectics of Shiism and Modernity. I have specially helped him in the chapter on Iranian foreign policy, specially vis-à-vis the United States and the Middle Eastern countries.

SCHOLARSHIPS

I received an Entrance Grant of 15,147 pounds for my MSc course "Theory and History of International Relations" (1998-99) from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

PROFESSIONAL COURSES

I have attended a United States Information Agency (USIA) Summer Program on the "American Political System" held at the Southern Illinois University, Carbondale from the 28th of June till the 9th of August 1997.
