APPLICATION OF INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTIC THEORY IN SOUTH ASIA by Maria Zaidi INTRODUCTION TO THE THEORY
The two important players of this theory were Albert Einstein and Sig mund Frued in which they
exchanged their views about human mind and its behaviour towards violence. Violence existed in human mind and it is a dominant feature of its geans. This theory deals with the phyche and of the people.
NEED TO PRESENT THIS THEORY This theory was presented in the last century but it is a need of today where an individual always tries to get power and wants his supremacy over the world and to impose its policies. To save
mankind from the illeffects of war this theory was considered as the earliest precaution. APPLICATION OF INDIVIDUAL CHARACTERISTIC THEORY IN SOUTH ASIA People who belong to South Asia are emotional and
sentimental in their thoughts and action rather than practical and diplomatic in its true sense, which creates tension and problems in the region. This region is partially full of conflicts. India and Pakistan two rivals are living
in this region . India has a feeling supremacy because of its Brahminic concept and is not ready to came down and negotiate on any issue including Kashmir. Kashmir can be a key to resolve all the issues but both Pakistan and
India were not interested in solving the core issue in a positive manner. Kashmir is an integral part of India according to its constitution and Pakistan wants Kashmir because of its Muslim majority and its location, which creates
tussle and aggression in South Asia. On the other hand nuclear weapons are indispensable for the security of the people. Yet nuclear weapons created ostensibly for the purpose of saving human life are also capable of
destroying lacks is an instance. This capability is not used for defence in South. The ugly picture of nuclear devices were seen two years back when Pakistan and India used it in a wrong way. First India did it and then Pakistan
gave a matching response. This proves that toys were given to the kids to play but elders do not give them as an instruction how to use it in a proper manner. This shows their attitude towards violence. South Asia is
conventionally understood to include Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Srilanka, Bhutan, India and Pakistan. Around seventy percent of South Asian terriority is shared by India and South Asia is basically Indo-Centric in nature. So
India wanted to establish its hegemony in the region which makes it more aggressive in nature . The Governments of Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and General Pervez Musharraf has different school of thoughts towards peace. India has a
democratic system but Pakistan lacks this system after the dismissal of Nawaz Government, which creates a major problem for both the countries. In the cold war era the Soviet Union and the United States emphasized on the
capacity of carrying out unacceptable punishment and not the magnitude of destruction . They always talked about deterrence not destruction. But the problem in South Asia is that they want to destroy their enemies rather to
deter them. Other countries of South Asia are quite peaceful and are not interested to have their hold over the region because India influences them. Bangalies are satisfied with their present government. The government of
Bangladesh tries its best to help resolve the issue of Kashmir for peace in South Asia. CONCLUSION In my point of view this theory applies in South Asia because of India and Pakistan
and their attitude towards peace. According to Hans J. Morgenthau, a renowned political scientist, "Men do not fight because they have arm. They have arm because they believe it is necessary to fight." South Asia cannot
afford Hitler and Napoleon under one roof. Aggression is a part of human behavior so it is necessary for South Asian countries and its people to avoid their conflicts and make its economy on its move for their own development.
Manufacturing of missiles and bombs take us no where but it only leads towards bloodshed and violence. * B.A. (Hons) IIIrd Year, Department of International Relations, University of Karachi.
