CONFLICT RESOLUTION ATTITUDE AS A BARRIER IN RESOLUTION OF KASHMIR DISPUTE by Amina Bano Baloch, B.A(Hon) IIIrd year INTRODUCTION First of all I would you like to mention some thing
about my paper. My assignment is about the attitude of Pakistan AND India, which is a major barrier in resolution of Kashmir dispute. Attitude means "way of thinking" and "behavior". Why did I choose this topic? Actually everyone
has his own perception about Kashmir dispute and also has suggestion but I think attitude is the major cause of increasing tension in the issue of Kashmir. Attitude of Pakistan and India It is based on sigmund
frued's theory of individual characteristic theory, which is concerned about human mind. India and Pakistan are emotionally attached to the Kashmir issue. India says that Kashmir is its "Atoot Ang" (Unbreakable part). And
Pakistan says that Kashmir is like its "Sherug". (Lifeline). Both say: No Compromise over Kashmir. Due to this attitude, they have fought 2 wars over Kashmir. Pakistan and India both signed Simla agreement they
agreed to resolve their problems through peaceful bilateral diplomacy. But on the other hand both violated that agreement. The Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpai visited Pakistan and both states agreed to forge friendly
relations with each other. But soon Kargil crisis
erupted. So it shows the attitude or mentality of both states. If Pakistan agrees for mediation, India does not agree. So we can say that both of states have no political will to resolve this dispute. Because the resolution of Kashmir dispute is against of their interest.
Conclusion In end of my paper, it has became clear that attitude is one of the major barriers for the resolution Kashmir dispute. I would like to suggest that if they want to resolve Kashmir dispute they
should change their way of thinking or attitude. The right way to resolve Kashmir dispute is that they should give independence to Kashmiris as a Separate Sovereign State.
